DMTA Summer School scorches the dancefloor
The Rockhampton Grammar School Dance Council's inaugural aDvANCE Summer School is proving a hit with participants at RGS this week.
Students have been testing their skills across Musical Theatre, Contemporary, Modern Jazz and Funk Tap disciplines.
Guest tutors at the 2018 Summer School are Peta Anderson (Funk Tap), Kay Hoyos (Musical Theatre), Natasha Window (Modern Jazz) and RGS past school captain (RGS 2014) Marnie Hungerford.
The Summer School has provided an opportunity for dance enthusiasts across Central Queensland to not only learn new skills over four days with their experienced guest tutors, but to also forge new friendships with those who share a passion for dance.
Students have enjoyed working in the three RGS dance studios that feature sprung floors with Harlequin Cascade surfaces, floor to ceiling wall mirrors, wooden barres and professional sound systems.
Students also performed in the RGS Theatre.
RGS Head of Dance, Drama and DMTA Mr Michael Robertson said the RGS Dance Council was incredibly pleased with the success of the inaugural aDvANCE Summer School and the opportunity it has offered local dancers in the Central Queensland region to work with four professional artists in the dance and musical theatre field.
"It has also allowed students from different dance academies and towns to meet and share their love of dance and performing,'' Mr Robertson said.
"The students will leave the Summer School inspired for their dance year ahead and will take away with them skills and an experience they will cherish for life."
The Summer School concluded with a Showcase performance today (11 January).
