Meet our 2019 School Captains
Year 12 students Sean McDonald, Olivia Maynard, Cane Comiskey and Paige Baker are excited about their busy year ahead as Rockhampton Grammar School Captains and Vice Captains.
Olivia is one of five Maynard children to board at RGS.
Youngest sister Faith is in Year 9 while her older siblings have graduated, Bonnie (RGS 2017), Guthrie (RGS 2015) and Sabrina (RGS 2013), who was a Vice Captain.
Olivia is from a cattle property outside of Jambin, near Biloela.
“I have lived on this property my entire life so moving to a school like Grammar was a huge thing for me,’’ Olivia said.
“I started at Grammar as a boarder in Year 8.
“At school I do rowing, netball and my friends have recently started up girls cricket and AFL which have been so much fun because we rarely know what’s going on!”
Incoming School Captain Sean McDonald started at RGS as a Prep student in 2007 and his younger sister Alice starts her secondary school journey this year, having also started at RGS in Prep in 2012.
Sean is a first-generation student at RGS with his parents Greg and Jodie growing up outside of Queensland.
Outside of the classroom Sean has enjoyed great success at water polo and hockey.
Vice Captain Paige Baker started at RGS in Year 4 and her first teacher was Mr Robertson (now Head of Dance, Drama and DMTA).
Paige has an older brother Geordie, who started at RGS in Year 6 and graduated in 2016.
“I have lived in Central Queensland for my entire life, and was born and raised in Rockhampton,’’ Paige said.
“My mum was born in a little town west of Toowoomba called ‘Tara’, and when she was about seven her family packed up and moved to Mount Isa, where she met my dad - who had been living there his whole life. After living in Brisbane together, my parents moved to Yeppoon, where they bought acreage and built the house that I now live in.”
Paige’s interests outside of the classroom are extensive and varied.
“You’ll most likely find me in a dance studio somewhere as I’ve been dancing for approximately 14 years (across most dance styles including ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, musical theatrPae, national, hip-hop, etc.).
“I have also been a member of the RGS Musical family for close to five years! I possess an almost-encyclopaedic knowledge of song lyrics, I love to bake, and I could talk about space for hours. I’m an avid reader, writer and musician.”
Cane Comiskey (Vice Captain) started at RGS as a Year 8 boarder in 2015.
A first-generation student at the School, Cane’s father Brad grew up in the Alpha district while mum Briony is from the Emerald district. Cane’s older brother Riley graduated in 2018 and his younger brother Tye is in Year 9.
Before arriving at RGS Cane grew up on the family’s property at Comet, east of Emerald.
Cane has a strong interest in sport, particularly rugby league and rugby union, touch football and CrossFit.
