History and Achievements:
The Rockhampton Grammar School has a proud history in the state-wide U18 Ballymore Cup Competition having won the Central Queensland and North Queensland Regions in each of the last 10 years as well as winning the First XV Ballymore Cup three times (2009, 2012 and 2015) and the U15 Ballymore Cup in 2016. The Ballymore Cup is the largest schoolboy competition outside of the GPS and AIC competitions in Brisbane.
The school also provides a majority of players for the National Gold Program, which is the Australian Rugby Union’s development program for 15 to 17 year olds. Since its inception in 2011, the school has hosted sessions run by the Australian Rugby Union staff which assist in developing the skill of regional athletes who wish to compete at the highest level in their respective age groups.
The School has been going on a biannual tour to the South Island of New Zealand since 2004 which students benefiting from the experiences on the field as well as the cultural and adventure activities available in New Zealand.
Over the past 5 years a number of RGS players have been involved in Queensland Reds Academy programmes and the School strongly supports Capricornia U15 and U18 sides which compete at the School State Competition each year.

Ballymore Cup First XV Champions – 2009, 2012, 2015
North Queensland First XV Champions – 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015 (Competition started in 2006 and concluded in 2015)
Rockhampton District Sport Champions First XV – 2000-2006, 2008 – 2016.
U15 Ballymore Cup Champions - 2016
The Rockhampton Grammar School has a strong development program in rugby league and has produced some great results at Confraternity in the past 10 years. From 2008 to 2012, the First XIII finished in the top 4 each year and since 2013 the teams have maintained a top 8 finish. Locally the school competes in one of the best schoolboy Rugby League competitions in Queensland. The best result in this competition was a 2nd place finish in 2009.
In recent years, the school has had players representing the Capra’’s U18 and U16 teams which compete early in the year against other Youth Aged Queensland Cup teams. Further to this past players, Simon Gregory (2009), Stephen Coombe (2010) and Kurt Wiltshire (2015), have competed in the National U20’’s competition for the Penrith Panthers, Brisbane Broncos and North Queensland Cowboys respectively.
The Rockhampton Grammar School takes pride in not only providing opportunity for athletes of all sizes and ability, but also in providing developmental pathways for talented players to realise their potential and represent the school, region and state to the best of their ability.

RGS Rugby Supporters Committee
RGS Rugby Supporters Committee provides an opportunity for parents and supporters who are looking to assist in the development of Rugby at RGS while also raising the profile of RGS Rugby within our community. Fundraising, support at games and the development of a social network within the Rockhampton Grammar Rugby community are some items on the agenda for this support group. The committee meets monthly, in the Long Room at RGS. Please feel free to attend any meeting (as listed on the calendar) or to contact the Teacher in Charge of Rugby, Mr Glen Minto by email (firstname.lastname@example.org) for information.
The Registration Fee for The RGS Rugby Club $200.00. This fee covers:
- Registration for both Rugby codes
- One pair of shorts (Rugby Union and Rugby League)
- Training Shirt
- Transport to matches
- A player's pass to all Rockhampton Secondary Schools Rugby League matches
- A player's ticket to the RGS Rugby Club Dinner
Uniforms Once a player has paid their annual Registration Fee, they will be provided with a pair of BLK Rugby shorts, a training jersey, training singlet and a pair of Rugby socks. Each player is expected to wear the appropriate kit provided when representing the RGS Rugby Club. RGS Rugby Club supplies and launders all team jerseys.
RGS Rugby Club Annual Dinner
At the conclusion of both Rugby codes in Term 3 there is a formal Presentation Dinner, which will be in term 4 on Saturday, 25 October. The achievements of teams and outstanding individuals are recognised with the presentation of various trophies. Players pay for their ticket to the event as part of Registration fees. Tickets for parents and supporters are available several weeks prior to the dinner.
