RGS Show Cattle Team
RGS has a history as a registered Brahman stud (ABBA Member number 500), and is in the process of expanding its own commercial and stud operations, which started as a result of donations from the McCamley, Nobbs and Kirk families in 2005.
Currently, we are utilising our own commercial cross bred steers for show team activities which are hand selected from industry supporters such as Banana Station.
Joining the Show Cattle Team is an opportunity for students from Year 7 to Year 12 to get involved with something they love and have done at home before or try out something new even with no previous experience with cattle.
With a strong team focus on personal development, leadership, safety and support of each other the cattle team provides a wonderful environment where fundamentals of animal husbandry, handling and commercial and stud judging are taught and refined under the guidance of our expert industry based coach, Ms Renee Rutherford
We compete at a number of agricultural shows across the Central Queensland region, also including Central Highlands and Wide Bay sub-chambers which varies year to year. Sub chamber representatives attend the Royal Qld Show and RGS students may also have the opportunity to attend a variety of showing activities including school based “boot camps”, breed camps, junior beef and the CQLX sales just to name a few.
RGS has a proud history of showing, and many students gain employment with prestigious studs, and with significant achievements including multiple time recipients of the highly contested Rockhampton Show Schools showing trophy, we not only are competitive locally, but give students the opportunity to take the passion to the world stage.
Dates – Throughout Term 2
The show cattle team will be attending a number of shows throughout Term 2 at various agricultural shows within the region which are mostly weekend days.
Cost – Registration cost for the year is $500, this is inclusive of all transport, catering, camping, show entry and show class entries.
N.B – Cost does not cover any students who qualify for regional or state finals - accommodation, transport and entries will be in addition to original registration cost.
Uniform – The team uniform requires a show team shirt (available at the red and black shop), cream jeans, cream hat and brown boots which students are required to purchase along with a dust coat and show cane. Blue jeans are worn as a work uniform along with an approved work shirt.
Training will occur every Monday and Thursday from 3.30pm-5.30pm at the School’s Port Curtis Farm
