Marlborough Show Results (Saturday, 22 April)
RGS is a registered Brahman stud (ABBA Member number 500), and is currently using commercial cross bred steers for its showing activities. The School is in the process of expanding its own commercial and stud operations, which started as a result of donations from the McCamley, Nobbs and Kirk families in 2005.
Students joining the team will be instructed on preparing and leading show cattle (both stud cattle and led steers), as well as given information on competing in junior judging (stud and commercial beef cattle) and junior parading competitions.
The RGS cattle show team consists of members from Year 7-12. We complete across the Central Queensland area, which incorporates a variety of shows across the Central Queensland, Central Highlands and Wide Bay sub-chambers. Sub chamber representatives attend Ekka and RGS students attend a variety of showing activities including school based “boot camps”, breed camps, Junior beef, Paradise Lagoons campdraft, CQLX sales, CQQH shows just to name a few.
Students undertake training on Monday and Friday under the guidance of our expert industry based coach, Ms Renee Rutherford. Students have the opportunity to study formalised competencies associated with showing and we are currently planning for a trip to the USA to experience showing on a world stage. As well a strong association with the Brahman breeders, currently holding registration as stud Number 5000, we currently finish our commercial cross bred steers, hand selected from industry supporters such as Banana Station.
RGS has a proud history of showing, and many students gain employment with prestigious studs, and with significant achievements including multiple time recipients of the highly contested Rockhampton Show Schools showing trophy, we not only are competitive locally, but give students the opportunity to take the passion to the world stage.
